The Skokie Police Department’s – Police Beat Program
The Patrol Division is the largest organizational unit within the Skokie Police Department and serves as the front line in the fulfillment of the Department’s mission. In addition to responding to both emergency and non-emergency calls for service, Patrol Officers are encouraged to act proactively as community problem solvers. Patrol Officers initiate or respond to approximately 40,000 calls for service per year involving criminal offenses, traffic crashes, alarm activations, disturbances, traffic complaints, and other miscellaneous events.
The Patrol Division is divided into three shifts in order to provide continuous 24-hour police service. Each shift is supervised by a Commander and several Sergeants. Further, the Village is divided into nine geographical police beats. The beat boundaries were established to create balanced workloads for Beat Officers who are assigned to the same beat for a full year. The Beat Officer Program allows Officers to be more familiar with their areas of responsibility, and to more readily develop a partnership with residents to improve the quality of life in individual neighborhoods.
Contacting your Beat Coordinator is as simple as clicking on the map below, in the area where you live or work, to see contact info. The Beat Coordinator will share your request, concern, or tip information with all officers assigned to that beat.
Text-a-Tip is available 24/7 by texting “Skokie” and your information to 847411. Text-a-Tip should not be used for emergencies!
Another communication idea is to establish a Neighborhood Watch for your area. An organizational meeting with neighbors and your Beat Officers will be held to discuss potential issues or concerns.
Finally, 9-1-1 is available 24/7 in case of any emergency. 9-1-1 should be used to report any in-progress crime, imminent hazard to public safety, suspicious circumstances/persons, or medical emergency. If you need police or fire to respond to an incident, dial 9-1-1.
The Skokie Police Department looks forward to working with you to make our community a safer and better place to live for all!
