Communications
The Communications Division has an authorized strength of 19 persons who are assigned to one of four watches to ensure 24/7 coverage. Watch I, II and III each have a Supervisor, and have an Officer in Charge (OIC) who serves as an Acting Supervisor in the absence of a Shift Supervisor. Watch IV overlaps Watches II and III.
During calendar year 2016, the Communications Center answered over 185,000 telephone calls, including 37,964 E-911 calls. Of the total calls received, 39,218 calls resulted in dispatch for police service, 3,443 for fire services, and 5,994 calls for emergency medical services. The remaining 147,552 calls were for requests for information or non-emergency police or fire services.
