The Skokie Police Department is pleased to offer Residential Security Checks to residents who will be away from their home for an extended period of time.  To request a Residential Security Check, please read the conditions below, click ‘I Agree’ and then fill out the application. You may also call the police non-emergency number at 847/982-5900 to apply over the phone.  Police will conduct extra patrols on your home, specifically looking for suspicious activity.  We strongly suggest you also have family members or a trusted neighbor keep an eye on your home while you are away.  This program cannot guarantee crime will not occur on your property.

Residential Security Checks are limited by the following conditions:

  • A resident must be leaving for a minimum of four days.
  • The maximum check will be for two months. Residents who will be gone for longer periods are advised to contact a private security firm.
  • Vacant properties are not eligible for Residential Security Checks.
  • If your emergency key-holder is not a resident of Skokie, a local neighbor must be identified as a contact for the Police.
  • Due to limited access, no apartments or condominiums without direct outside entrances will be accepted for Residential Security Checks.

All requests submitted will be reviewed and an e-mail will be sent to inform you of the status of your request. You may also be contacted for additional information in order for us to better provide the requested service. Requests are generally reviewed during normal business hours Monday-Friday.
